Building on 75 years of experience and innovation, the company has grown from a small family business into a unique global corporation with customer groups that vary from meteorological and hydrological institutions to road and aviation authorites, and from wind energy providers to pharmaceutical and power industries. Each year we serve customers in 0ver 150 countries.
How did we get where we are today? What it all comes down to is innovation and technology. The groundbreaking technological innovations that have solidified Vaisala's success include the first radiosonde in the 1930s, thin-film humidity sensor technology and first airport weather systems in 1970s, carbon dioxide and dewpoint sensors in the 1990s, dual polarization weather radar in early 2000s, and a mobile road weather application launched just last month.

Vaisala's history in China goes back a long time as well. We delivered radiosondes and sounding equipment here already in the mid-1950s, and started a more continuous cooperation in the 1970s. First Vaisala office in China was opened in Beijing in 1994. During all this time, we have come to realize that China and Vaisala have a lot in common in the sense that perseverence, innovation and technological development have also been strong drivers for the remarkable growth China has achieved in the recent decades.
Today China remains a very important focus market for Vaisala. We are also investigating possibilities to increase our research and develoment activities in China to be able to develop exactly the kind of environmental monitoring technologies and measurement approaches that our Chinese customers need and appreciate. Doing this, we offer our contribution to the great course of China’s modernization.
